3rd Edition of the Research Winter School by CyberSchool

06 Feb 2025 By Skyld Labs

On February 6, 2025, Sklyd took part in the 3rd edition of the École d’Hiver Recherche. The event was organized by CyberSchool – the university-level school for cybersecurity research. Marie Paindavoine, CEO of Sklyd, was invited to speak on Thursday afternoon. She opened the session with a talk on an important but often overlooked topic: “Model Extraction: Why You Should Care and How to Protect Yourself?”

Understanding the risks to AI models

Today, AI models are used more and more on embedded devices. But with this growth comes new risks — like model extraction, or model theft.

This is becoming a real concern for companies. In her talk, Marie Paindavoine explained what model extraction is, why attackers do it, and what can happen to a company if a model is stolen. She also talked about technical solutions that can help stop these attacks.

And she shared why it’s important to think about security from the very beginning of building an AI system.

A moment of exchange

Beyond the technical content, the day included great conversations with students. These moments showed how important learning, research, and dialogue between generations are to move innovation forward.

This 3rd edition of the Winter School showed once again how research and industry can work together.
